The Foundation
An effective and sound loss prevention program requires rounding up your risks, debating the level of impact and severity that those risks might have to your bottom line, designing policies and procedures and most importantly, training your staff so they can be successful by following the standard operating practice you develop.
All of this takes communication all around, whether it be face to face, virtual or distant. The art of conveying a deliberate message to another person in a way intended to produce expected understanding is critical.
Communicatuion is also the key to customer service and safety.
The Root Cause
In almost every situation where a review of a loss causation takes place, the same root cause typically emerges – poor communication. Remember the old broken phone line game, where one thing is said and at the end of a circle of friends repeating by whispering in the next person’s ear, the message mysteriously transforms to something completely different? Well it happens in business every day. And it is the most common root cause I experienced throughout my years reviewing why companies lost profit.
Some helpful tools
Enabling your team to communicate with ease takes attitude, a culture and systems. For example mobile radio devices are a perfect tool for retailers to allow for instant communication to keep your staff talking, to keep them informed, to allow them to ask questions, and to keep them safe.

The Bottom Line is this; sometimes a simple as old school radios can be the bridge to an otherwise huge gap that may exist if one person does not have the ability to convey information to another…and Bottom Line Matters!
